Lions Clubs hold Joint Charter Night

By Brandie Majeau
The Joint Charter Night of Lions International, a significant event that united Redwater,
Radway, Smoky Lake, Thorhild, and Waskatenau Lions Clubs, was a testament to the remarkable
354 years of combined service these clubs have dedicated to their communities. The Joint
Charter Night was held on April 13 at Pembina Place and was a celebration of their collective
achievements and a source of inspiration for members and non-members alike.
The highlight of the event was the special appearance of Dr. Patti Hill, the Lions
International President. Her presence added a lot of excitement to the evening and was highly
appreciated by everyone present. Dr. Hill’s speech was inspiring and focused on the importance
of community service and its impact on people’s lives.
Each club presented their club’s history, highlighting their various activities and
achievements over the years. The club members had set up display tables highlighting
community service projects, fundraisers, and events organized by their respective clubs. This
provided the attendees with an excellent opportunity to learn more about the clubs and their
contributions to their communities.
District Governor Dave Leshchyshyn, who is visually impaired and legally blind,
delivered a powerful speech on Lionism. His personal journey of overcoming challenges to serve
the community was a testament to the resilience and determination of Lions Club members. His
words left a profound impact on the audience, inspiring them to embrace change and continue
their service.
The event also featured the presentation of long service chevrons and club excellence
awards to recognize the outstanding contributions of club members. This was an opportunity to
acknowledge the hard work and dedication of these individuals who have made a significant
impact on their communities.
The five Lions Clubs have collectively served their communities for a total of 354
years. This is a remarkable accomplishment that speaks to the dedication and commitment of the
Lions Clubs and their members in serving their communities. The Joint Charter Night was a
night of connection and celebration, and it inspired everyone to continue their excellent work and
make a positive impact on their communities. It also served as a guiding beacon to draw others
into becoming members of such esteemed clubs.
The Lions Clubs website features encouragement on changing the world, “Changing the
world is a journey. There is no middle and no end. There is only a beginning-and it starts with us.
It happens through the many small choices and acts of kindness we make every day. Together,
the sum of our efforts makes the world a better place, one life, one relationship and one
community at a time.” The Redwater, Radway, Thorhild, Smoky Lake and Waskatenau Lions

Clubs have left a profound impact on their communities and are confirmation that everyone has
the ability to “change the world.”
