The Smoky Lake Agricultural Society’s annual STARS fundraiser stands as a
celebration that intricately connects the fabric of the community while championing a
vital and life-saving service. STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service) delivers rapid
air medical care to individuals in critical situations, especially in rural areas where the
urgency of medical assistance can often be hindered by distance and accessibility.
This year’s event did not disappoint, featuring an amazing dinner, silent and live
auctions and a dance featuring the Ryan Snow Band. The evening was alive with the
sound of laughter as guests enjoyed the experience and variety of activities throughout
the evening. The small yet mighty community of Smoky Lake joined forces to raise an
astounding $120,000, proof of the power of unity and the remarkable things that can be
achieved when people come together for a shared purpose.
The live auction was an amazing display and selection, revealing a multitude of
generous contributions from local businesses and individuals whose commitment to the
STARS fundraiser goes above and beyond. Each item represented not only monetary
value but also the genuine support of those who understand the importance of what
STARS actually means. The Smoky Lake Agricultural Society extends profound
gratitude to these sponsors, along with heartfelt appreciation for the countless
volunteers and community members whose unwavering dedication propels this cause
forward year after year, including those who attend each annual banquet.
In addition to its fundraising success, the event serves as a critical platform for
raising awareness about the essential role that STARS plays in saving lives. It highlights
the urgent need for ongoing support to ensure these crucial services remain accessible,
particularly in areas where every second counts in the face of medical emergencies.
The STARS fundraiser exemplifies the core values of teamwork, compassion,
and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of all residents. This year, another
monumental achievement was reached: the Smoky Lake Agricultural Society has
successfully raised a remarkable total of $250,000 over the past three years. In
recognition of this extraordinary effort, their logo will be honoured by being displayed on
the STARS helicopter, a sincere tribute to the hard work and generous support that has
fueled their fundraising endeavors.
