Bellis 4-H

On February 27, the Bellis 4-H Beef Club had its annual communications event, formerly known as public speaking. The members were able to choose between completing a speech or presentation. Each member was           judged on how well they performed. Individuals who decided to do a speech also had to complete an impromptu speech based on which they were also judged.

Each age category had its time limit. For junior speeches, the time was 3-5 Minutes, for intermediates, it was also 3-5, and for seniors, it was 4-6 minutes. For presentations, juniors had 4-8 minutes, intermediates had 6-8, and seniors had 8-10 minutes. Everyone did a fantastic job with their speeches and presentations. It was awesome to listen to the interesting topics the members picked.

We had 3 Cleavers who performed as Masters of Ceremonies, Rosie Dmetruik, Lilly Feniak, and Elise Feniak, who did a great job introducing each member. They were assisted by the Master Chairperson and assistant leader, Katilynn Makowichuk.

At the end of the presentations, the members were provided with their judging sheets and a Bellis 4-H Beef Club water bottle made by K&A. The      judges held everyone together to share some advice on presenting and improvements we could make in the future. Last but not least, the first and second placements in each age category and communication type were announced and presented with a ribbon.

For Junior Presentations, Cheyanne Harty presenting on The Russian Machine, placed first with the runner-up Austin Cherniwchan with Baking with Austin.

For Senior presentations, the winner went to Alyson Makowichuk and Kyle Cherniwchan presenting Kyle’s Great Grilled Cheese. Coming in second were Nathan and Justin Cherniwchan with their Cattle Handling presentation.

For Junior public speaking, first place went to Aleria Edwardson speaking on My Favorite Type of Goats. Second place went to Ginny Dmetruik and her speech Training My Sheep to Ride.

For Intermediate speaking, 1st place went to Lane Fulks speaking on My Family’s Heritage, Present and Future, with Reed Cherniwchan coming in second place with his speech A Look at My Life on The Farm.

For Senior speeches, first place went to Elle Senetza, who spoke on Shorthorn Cattle and second place went to Cody Kozak with his speech on the History of Massey Ferguson.

We would also like to thank ALTALINK for their sponsorship and support and a special thanks to our judges Jamie Shapka, Kelly Montgomery and Marquie Bromley for taking time out of their afternoon to judge our members for us.

Overall, everyone did a great job and thought they were all awesome topics. We are very proud of all our members! We were amazed by what they presented and cannot wait until next year!
