Light it up!

By Brandie Majeau
Redwater’s Festival of Lights has woven a magical tapestry of brightness into the
dark winter nights of recent weeks, as neighbors and residents of the town banded
together to create a spectacle of festive cheer. With enthusiasm and creativity, they
transformed their homes and yards into enchanting displays adorned with glowing
Christmas lights. From intricate designs to whimsical inflatables, each installation not
only showcased the spirit of the season but also sparked a light-hearted competition to
determine who could claim the title of the best holiday display. It’s a scene that would
thrill even The Griswolds, as every light and ornament was meticulously arranged to
dazzle anyone lucky enough to stroll or drive by.
The streets of Redwater shimmered with a myriad of colors—reds, greens, blues,
and golds—creating scenes that completely transform front yards and buildings. The
artistry present in the decorations was nothing short of breathtaking; some homes
featured swirling patterns of lights, while others embraced traditional motifs, such as
glowing reindeer and charming Santa figures. It was evident that countless hours were
invested in planning and executing each unique vision, transforming the town into a
radiant tribute to the holiday season.
A warm congratulations is extended to all participants, celebrating not only the
winners but also the community spirit that made this event a success. The top
contenders were rewarded for their hard work with prizes that include $50 gift cards to
Home Hardware, while the fifth-place winner was treated to a stunning gift basket
crafted by local artist Andrea the Painter.
This year’s winners are as follows: taking the coveted first place was The Millers,
whose display captivated everyone with its brilliance. In second place, Mel and Debbie
Sautner impressed with their creative arrangement, followed closely by the delightful
decorations at Donna Y Residence in third place. Fourth place was awarded to the
charming display at Chrissy M Residence, and rounding out the top five was the
Lawson Residence.
While the excitement of voting and judging has wrapped up, the festive lights
continue to shine brightly across the town, inviting everyone to take a leisurely drive
through Redwater. Each turn offers a new opportunity to appreciate the artistic flair and
hard work that went into every display. And for those who love a little extra holiday spirit,
be sure to spot the home that counts down the days until Christmas, adding an extra
touch of anticipation to this joyous season!
