This fall has been bustling for the dedicated members of the Redwater Art
Society, culminating in their exciting 2nd Annual November Art Show and Sale. This
vibrant event showcased the incredible talents of local artists and provided a platform
for community engagement and appreciation of the arts.
In a bid to further beautify the town, the Art Society proposed a captivating mural
concept to enhance a stark concrete wall. Their vision received enthusiastic unanimous
approval from the town council, paving the way for this artistic endeavor to commence
in the spring. Support from various community groups has emerged, stepping forward to
assist with the costs of supplies needed for this collaborative art project.
Throughout the season, the society has been abuzz with multiple workshops,
allowing members to delve into new techniques while refining their skills across various
mediums including watercolors, acrylics, oils, and pastels. Esteemed outside instructors
such as Willie Wong and Oksana Zhelisko from Edmonton shared their expertise,
enriching the learning experience. Additionally, the society has been fortunate to have
its own talented and experienced members, including Barb Gaboury, Carol Mervyn-
Keon, Fred Moody, and Donna Yakibchuk, who have led classes and workshops. This
initiative has proven to be immensely beneficial, aligning with the society’s goals of
fostering art appreciation and encouraging creative expression for individuals of all
ages.
Aiming to engage the community further, members of the Art Society
collaborated with the local Library for the ‘Word on the Street’ event. Prior to Halloween,
they also hosted a delightful mini workshop for children, where they could create their
own whimsical ‘Monster Jars’ designed to hold a battery-operated candle—a spark of
creativity that surely lit up the imaginations of young participants.
As part of their commitment to supporting budding artists, the society is excited
about offering the Art Society Scholarship to a local student who pursues post-
secondary studies in the arts. Information regarding this scholarship opportunity will be
shared online soon. Their website, https://www.redwaterartsociety.ca, is a treasure trove
of details about upcoming classes, including an impressive lineup of instructors for
- It also features a Members Gallery, where visitors can admire the splendid works
created by the society’s talented members.
The Redwater Art Society takes pride in showcasing the creativity and passion of
artists, both young and old. The public is warmly invited to visit during open
hours—Wednesdays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM and ‘Drop-In Saturdays’ from 10:00 AM to
