A ghostly encounter

By Brandie Majeau
At what appears to be turning into an eagerly anticipated yearly tradition among
the youth, Newbrook Public Library once again held its second annual Ghost Hunting
evening. The library buzzed with the presence of excited teens, their laughter and
chatter filling the air as they reminisced about the previous year’s event. Delicious slices
of pizza made their rounds as the library’s meeting room underwent a magical
transformation into an impromptu theater. Eerie yet age-appropriate PG-13-rated
spooky movies flickered across the screen, captivating even the youngest ghost hunters
and setting the stage for an unforgettable evening.
As the sun dipped below the horizon and the film’s final credits rolled, the team of
amateur ghost hunters meticulously packed their bags with an assortment of equipment
crafted to provoke a response from the supernatural realm. With an air of reverence, the
investigators made their way to the Newbrook Observatory Historical Site, a place
steeped in history and mystery, prepared to respectfully engage with any potential spirit
presence. The group attentively listened to a harrowing tale that set an eerie tone, and
then fearlessly delved into the various rooms of the observatory, methodically putting
each piece of equipment to the test in their quest to make contact with “the other side.”
The evening began with hushed conversations and gradually escalated to abrupt
outbursts and urgent summons for others to gather in specific areas. The young group’s
vivid imaginations were ignited as they shared their extraordinary encounters with rare
phenomena. Did the lights flicker mysteriously? Were there unsettling sensations of
unseen presences lurking behind them? Did someone feel a ghostly tug on their leg?
Was there a shadowy figure lurking on the stairs? This night would be forever etched in
their memories. Excitedly animated by their heightened exhilaration and a tinge of
apprehension, the group eagerly conversed as they departed the observatory and
ventured into the swirling fog that draped the night air. This event was not only about
creating lasting memories; it also provided the youth with an opportunity to forge a
connection with the past. Newbrook Observatory’s extensive collection of museum

artifacts took the guests on a historical journey, bridging the gap between then and now,
with or without the assistance of friendly spirits.
