The Radway Lion’s Club hosted its first fundraising event since 2017 (it could have been
2018 joked one of the members). The event was an overwhelming success with 130 guests
attending the Ladies Night Wellness Connection on February 10. The process began as a
conversation around the need to bring funds into the club with so many of their events being
free family experiences. With Thorhild County no longer hosting a rural women’s conference,
the Radway Lion’s Club focused on the idea of a ladies’ night surrounding the theme of
women’s wellness and supporting local wellness providers in the area.
The providers were not in attendance to sell their products but to promote a set of
services, providing information and resources for a variety of wellness options. They addressed
the guest’s curiosity and questions with knowledgeable answers and information, ranging from
mainstream services to non-traditional methods of healing and self-care. The informal
conference atmosphere was well received and welcomed the guests to a night dedicated to
women’s wellness. With some games to engage the audience and encourage a social
environment, the stage was set for a delicious dinner and a wonderful evening of programs.
The Ladies Night Wellness Conference welcomed keynote speaker, Sherrie Kapach. As a
first-time event speaker, she captured her audience with an enthralling account of a routine
surgery that forever changed her life. The common operation evolved into a stroke, kidney
failure, and a cascading snowball effect of health problems that kept coming. With the second
chance life handed to her as she overcame overwhelming obstacles, Kapach focused her life on
a mission to help others. Using bodybuilding as her own mental focus, drive, and motivation,
she embarked upon her own remarkable wellness journey becoming a Master Life Coach,
personal trainer, Clinical Hypnotherapist, author, and many other wellness titles. Sherrie
Kapach imparted an important message to each of the guests, sharing her personal drive to
challenge herself, that amazing things happen when you step outside your comfort zone. “Get
comfortable being uncomfortable and you may be surprised at what happens.” shared Kapach.
The Radway Lion’s Club expressed their gratitude to Thorhild County for a generous
donation, ensuring the event’s success. They are also grateful to the following wellness
providers for committing their time and expertise to making the event a success: Jade Spa
(Redwater), These Two Hands-Reflexology (Radway), New Leaf Counselling Services Inc.
(Westlock), Happy Hands Wholistic Healing (Redwater), Song That Woman Over There-Healing
Photography (Radway), Compassion House (Home away from home for women in cancer
treatment), Cosmic Vitality Healing Arts (Redwater), Smoky Lake Skin Studio (Smoky Lake), Shift
360 Health & Wellness (Smoky Lake), Unity Within (Sturgeon County), and Sherrie Kapach-
Clinical Hypnotherapist and Life Coach (Egremont). The contributions from the community as
well as all those who purchased tickets and attended the Ladies Night Wellness Connection
made that Radway Lion’s Club fundraiser a tremendous success.
The evening wound itself down with a humorous performance by Grindstone Theatres
11-o-clock Number, an entertaining event of improv-musical comedy.
