Community able to get up close and personal with RCMP vehicles

The Redwater RCMP detachment hosted an open house for the community on Sunday, May 14th. The open house was to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the RCMP in Canada. 
 
“This event has been organized by the Redwater Detachment to bring our community together
to celebrate the RCMP’s 150 th anniversary and the positive role that the Redwater Detachment
plays in the communities it serves,” shared Sgt. Jeff Sehn. 
 
There was plenty for everyone to see, as children and adults alike enjoyed the gorgeous
weather. Various RCMP vehicles were brought in for the community to ask questions about, see
how they operate, and even get a chance to go inside. These included a boat, an ATV, a
helicopter, and cars and SUVs from various eras of RCMP operations. 
 
Officers from various jurisdictions were on hand to explain how different equipment is used to
solve crimes. A mock vehicle crash was staged, and members of the community could learn
how they use various tools to collect and examine evidence to determine the full nature and
scope of an accident.  
 
There was also a fingerprinting display on one of the vehicles that explained the steps used to
collect fingerprint evidence. Children were offered fingerprint kits to take home and complete. 
 
“Special events like this are a great opportunity to showcase to the communities we serve the
tools, resources, and partnerships that every detachment in Alberta has at their fingertips to
ensure the safety of all Albertans,” said Sgt. Sehn. 
 
Redwater Citizens on Patrol was on hand to serve up hot dogs, and Victim Services supplied
chips and refreshments.
