Redwater Quilters Guild

By Myrina Carter

The Redwater Quilters Guild is a local, non-profit organization within Redwater filled with individuals from Redwater and surrounding areas and comprised of a group of people with a wide range of sewing capabilities. The organization’s primary focus is to donate to community groups in need, such as Victim Services, Radway and Redwater Long Term Centres, and Wings of Providence, along with the art and craft of quilt making. They encourage and support the growth and development of quilting through teachings and community. The group gathers to learn and teach all sorts of new and modern quilting techniques, offering workshops in ruler work and patchwork.

Joining the Redwater Quilters Guild has many benefits, including making new and lasting friendships. The Guild can help bring that fun community feel to the hobby, allowing you to meet like-minded people with the same interests in socializing. It is also an excellent place for beginners to learn new techniques or the basics, and it is a great way for seasoned members to share their knowledge. Classes and workshops are a large part of being part of this group. They support sharing different workshops for members to attend and widen their knowledge.

Maureen Barrett Cross said, “We are supported by the generosity of groups such as the Lions Club. It is not a hobby in the sense of the word but a craft. It is in doing this work that we learn new techniques creating quilts together to donate and enjoy the company of like-minded quilters.”

The Redwater Quilters Guild takes great pride in participating in the community and spreading its knowledge with others. If you are interested in being a part of the quilting world, check out the Guild’s Facebook page, Redwater Quilters Guild.
