Redwater in Bloom

By Myrina Carter

Throughout the week from July 18to July 22, the Town of Redwater had been busy planning and recruiting volunteers to adopt different sections of Redwater. Volunteers handed out “We’ve Noticed” postcards to residents for having tidy, well-groomed yards. Many volunteers are local patrons of the community. Elected members Mayor Dave McRae, Councillor Joanne Williams, and community groups such as Your Way Support Services, Diamond Spring Lodge Brain Injury Unit, Redwater Community Services and Redwater HYPE.

Community Services Supervisor Jennifer Edworthy said, “Our goal for this program is for residents to feel that their efforts are not only recognized but essential for fostering community strength, involvement, and continuous improvement. Currently, we have just over 1000 properties in Redwater. It would be amazing to hand out “We’ve Noticed” cards to every property!

The event has been in the community since 2011. It stemmed from the Town of Redwater participating in the Provincial Communities in Bloom Program and evolving into its annual event just for Redwater. Members of the town have put in a lot of hard work, time, and energy in keeping their lawns nicely cut, flowers planted and flourishing, and keeping up on the maintenance.

Edworthy stated with gratitude, “we would like to thank all the volunteers for helping recognize our great residents for their effort in maintaining their yards. We appreciate everyone’s effort and capacity to beautify our community, whether it’s simply keeping weeds and lawn under control or exercising their green thumbs on elaborate floral and landscape projects. In addition, thank you to all the Town Staff that maintain our flower beds and grass. Everyone’s contributions help make the Town of Redwater a natural home!”
