For the first time “since COVID,” the Smoky Lake Kinettes organized their annual ladies’ night on May 14. Ladies’ night is – as the name says – entertainment for ladies only. This year the event was themed “Candyland,” which resulted in many ladies showing up in candy-themed outfits where no effort was too much to make it look as unique as possible. Tickets were purchased individually, or businesses could buy a table, which several businesses in the community did. Other businesses just donated money without buying a table; it is evident that the Kinettes are well-supported in the community.
One may expect an evening with a theme like this would primarily attract a younger population. However, a fair number of gray-haired attendants thoroughly enjoyed the evening and hit the dance floor. The evening started with a pasta and salad supper, soon to be followed by the unique attraction of the evening: a Drag show by the Edmonton Partyqueens. This group gave an outstanding performance of entertainment, singing and dancing throughout the evening. Their performances were enhanced by their glittering costumes and warm engagement with the public. It was not surprising why they were tipped so generously! Anyone wanting to organize a party, this group is worth looking into. Ladies’ night is also a way to raise funds for projects in the community. The silent auction tables were full of donations with something for everyone, and at the end of the evening, the silent auction proceeds turned out to be quite generous. The Kinettes got many off their chairs with the Heads or Tails game, another fundraiser. And for everyone, there was a chance to win a door prize. Altogether, this evening was a welcome event after two years without events. It was well-organized, engaging and fun. If you want a good party, leave it to the Smoky Lake Kinettes!
