The Dragonfly Centre offers hope tosurvivors

By Brandie Majeau
Following the Alberta government’s announcement of increased investment in
specialized supports for those impacted by sexual violence and abuse, it is important to
remember that support is always available, no matter where someone lives. The recent
announcement brought with it concerns that rural areas might not receive the same
level of support as larger cities, leaving some survivors worried about accessing help.
Recognizing these challenges, organizations remain committed to reaching every
survivor, ensuring that care and compassion extend across all communities, urban and
rural alike.
Organizations like The Dragonfly Centre have dedicated themselves to
supporting individuals and families in Northern Alberta. Inspired by the strength and
transformation symbolized by the dragonfly. As described on its website, “In a region
where distances are long and access to services can be limited, we serve as a
specialized regional hub dedicated to restoring safety, belief, and strength to survivors
and their families.”
Support is available during times of profound personal challenge, with an
unwavering focus on safety, healing, and recovery. Through this compassionate work,
lasting positive change takes root for individuals, families, and communities across
generations. The Dragonfly Centre continues to shine as a beacon of hope and support
for survivors of sexual abuse. Amoung its many services and programs, Foundations of
Healing stands out as a transformative psychoeducational support group, designed to
gently empower its participants and accompany them on their journey toward recovery.
The Foundations of Healing program is unique in its approach, blending
education with peer support to create a safe, nurturing, and non-judgmental space.
Group participants are gently guided through sessions that explore the complexities of
trauma, coping mechanisms, and the healing process.
The Foundations of Healing group is about more than just coping; it’s about
creating a supportive foundation for a new future. Participants are offered tools,
knowledge, and a caring community to help them reclaim their lives at their own pace.
The program explores a range of topics, including understanding trauma responses,
setting boundaries, practicing self-compassion, and developing healthy relationships.
Through psychoeducation and group discussion, survivors are invited to gain insights
into their own experiences and find comfort in connecting with others on similar
journeys.
The Dragonfly Centre also offers individual counselling, crisis intervention, and
education programs for communities and professionals. Through its compassionate and
comprehensive services, the Centre remains deeply committed to breaking the silence
around sexual abuse and empowering survivors throughout Alberta. For more

This is a gentle reminder to all survivors that healing is possible, that they are
never alone. That compassionate help is always within reach, even in the most remote
areas or when hope feels distant.
