The Town of Smoky Lake has launched its exciting new Welcome Wagon
initiative on December 1st, 2025, as part of the Newcomer Navigation Program. This
endeavor, proudly funded through the Settlement, Integration and Language Projects
(SILP) grant, was established to ensure that newcomers to Smoky Lake feel welcomed,
supported, and connected to their new community.
Each Welcome Wagon package will include a wealth of resources, such as
community information, essential household items, local support contacts, and exclusive
coupons generously donated by local businesses and organizations. This program
demonstrates the strong community spirit and welcoming embrace for which Smoky
Lake is known for.
Eligibility for the Welcome Wagon package extends to anyone who has moved to
Smoky Lake within the past three months, this includes individuals and families who
arrived on or after September 1st, 2025.
To streamline the distribution process, newcomers setting up their utilities at the
Town office will receive a voucher for the Welcome Wagon. They can then visit the
Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) office to pick up their package,
providing an opportunity for personal interaction and a warm welcome.
For those newcomers who may be renting or did not visit the Town office, the
Town plans to share ongoing information via social media to ensure that as many
residents as possible are reached.
Packages are currently being assembled, and the Town anticipates providing
updates, including photographs, once the preparations are complete. The Welcome
Wagon initiative exemplifies Smoky Lake’s dedication to inclusivity and community
support for its newest residents. Sukhan Bajaj, Newcomer Navigation Facilitator,
remarked, “We are thrilled to share this with the community!”
