Backcountry Archery hosts QDM for a sold-out show

By Brandie Majeau
Backcountry Archery hosted a sold-out fundraising event in Thorhild, drawing a
crowd of 300 enthusiastic guests to Thorhild Hall for a night of laughter, community, and
generous giving. The evening’s headline act, Saskatchewan-based comedian Quick
Dick McDick (QDM), brought his signature blend of relatable humour and musical
parody to a crowd thrilled and geared up for an evening out.
The event marked a much-anticipated gathering for many in the area, following
weeks of difficult road conditions over the holidays that had kept people from travelling
far or were completely homebound. Lively conversations filled the hall as friends,
neighbours, and families reconnected, eagerly anticipating the night’s festivities.
Organizers set the tone with a warm welcome and a brief recounting of Backcountry
Archery’s history but with everyone eager to mingle and get the night underway,
speeches were kept short before handing the evening over to Zena’s Catering, whose
dinner service drew many compliments as guests cleaned their plates and many
headed for seconds.
As dinner plates were cleared, Quick Dick McDick took the stage, capturing the
audience with witty stories, sharp political satire, and playful parody songs. One
particularly memorable segment, an energetic comparison of metric and standard
measurements, had the audience roaring with laughter. The comedian’s ability to push
the limits and boundaries with his opinions had many bent over with laughter, wiping
tears of mirth from their eyes.
In addition to the entertainment, guests participated in a raffle packed with tables
of prizes donated by supportive families, local businesses, and community members.
The abundance of items up for grabs underscored the widespread support for
Backcountry Archery and youth sports in general.
As the show wrapped up and raffle winners claimed their prizes, some guests
headed home while others stayed late, moving tables together and making the most of
the evening. Backcountry Archery sincerely thanks all the volunteers who made the

night such a success, as well as every guest who came out in support. With the
evening’s speeches kept brief, one key announcement was missed: Backcountry
Archery is excited to share that they will be moving to Thorhild County! Profits from the
fundraiser will help renovate their new home in the former Thorhild curling rink, recently
leased from the Thorhild Community Association. Thanks to the overwhelmingly positive
response to the Quick Dick McDick show and the community’s generosity, Backcountry
Archery is considering making this an annual event to help support their ongoing
operations and equipment needs.
