The Redwater & District Pioneer Club recently hosted its first ever Wine and
Cheese Fashion Show, an event that successfully highlighted the community’s vibrant
diversity. The show featured a wide range of models, including children, teenagers,
seniors, and super seniors, each demonstrating their confidence and grace on the
“runway.”
Among the model participants were local first responders, including members of
the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and
hospital personnel. Not only did these individuals showcase their professional uniforms,
but they also displayed an infectious enthusiasm that resonated with the audience. The
show also featured ethnic and cultural groups, presenting traditional garments that
reflected and celebrated their heritage, enriching the event with a profound sense of
community and diversity.
The clothing worn by the models was generously provided by Marta from “So
Chic” and Sonia from “Nook in the Woods.” The exquisite designs contributed to the
elegance of the evening. Numerous models demonstrated their dance skills and
unveiled hidden talents, delighting the audience as they confidently strutted down the
runway. The successful execution of the fashion show can be attributed to the
considerable efforts of numerous volunteers who answered the call to assist, with many
expressing their willingness to contribute. Their enthusiastic responses were pivotal to
the event’s realization. Special recognition is warranted for Marta from Sew Chic, whose
consistent generosity, unwavering dedication, and warm approach endeared her to all
attendees. Her substantial contributions were vital to the overall success of the evening.
One of the objectives of the fashion show was to promote inclusivity,
emphasizing that all individuals, irrespective of age, body type, or mobility challenges,
are deserving of beauty and self-confidence. This foundational message resonated
throughout the event, creating an environment that celebrated individuality and
validated each participant’s uniqueness. There was fun and laughter. There were cheers
and applause. But most of all there was a group of people coming together to celebrate
what makes everyone individuals, what makes everyone unique, what makes everyone
special, and what makes everyone beautiful.
The planning and organization of the show were supported by an outstanding
committee consisting of Debbie Wosnack, Gloria Marchak, David Brisson, Vina
Tancowny, Bev McKell, and Jeannie Hare. Their dedicated efforts ensured the smooth
execution of the event, encompassing various aspects such as displays and raffle
draws, which brought with it an atmosphere filled with enjoyment and appreciation.
The Wine and Cheese Fashion Show transcended its format as a fashion event
to become a significant community gathering that acknowledged the distinctiveness of
every individual. This memorable occasion demonstrated that when individuals unite in
support and collaboration, remarkable outcomes are achievable and will undoubtedly
contribute to the sustained growth and success of the Redwater & District Pioneer Club.
