Thorhild County Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is pleased to
announce that it has extended the donation deadline for its much-needed Coats &
Winter Pants for Kids & Family Program. While the original deadline was set for October
30, the compassionate team at Thorhild FCSS will now continue to gratefully accept
winter apparel donations at their office during regular County office hours. Individuals
can drop off their generous and gently used contributions at the Thorhild FCSS office,
conveniently accessed through the north doors of the Thorhild County office building.
The program has significantly surpassed expectations through the invaluable
partnership with Barrhead/Westlock Cleaners, whose generous contribution ensures
that every coat and garment receives thorough cleaning prior to being handed out to
families. This fantastic community collaboration not only emphasizes the importance of
caring for one another but also is providing these cleaning services at no cost,
demonstrating the spirit of generosity across community boundaries. The coat
distribution began on November 5, and individuals seeking assistance are warmly
invited to contact Kelly Patry, the dedicated Interim Manager of Family & Community
Support Services. Kelly is readily accessible at 780-398-3741 EXT 2820, or you can
reach her via email at kelly.patry@thorhildcounty.com.
In a world marked by abundance, it’s not uncommon to find a forgotten jacket
tucked away in the back of a closet or a pair of ski pants that no longer fit buried at the
bottom of a pile. Donating a coat, a warm hat, or a cozy pair of mittens transcends the
mere act of giving clothing; it offers a profound sense of security, comfort, and self-
esteem to both children and parents who are navigating challenging times. Each
donation sends a powerful message that they are valued, cared for, and that acts of
kindness exist within our community.
