The Redwater & District Chamber of Commerce hosted the third event in a series
of four Career and Job Fairs on October 26. This initiative began in March at Pembina
Place in Redwater and continued in July at the Thorhild Agriplex. The Career Job
Fair, along with a trade show, is a collaborative effort involving the Redwater & District
Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Redwater, Sturgeon County, Thorhild County,
Women Building Futures, Rupertsland Institute, Alberta Health Services, and the
Redwater Library. This initiative also receives ongoing support and grants from both the
Alberta and Federal Governments. The Redwater Chamber extends its gratitude for this
governmental support and thanks all its sponsors, volunteers, and representatives for
their contributions.
On October 26, the Career and Job Fair, once again held in Redwater at
Pembina Place, was a wealth of promotion of opportunities within the community and
beyond. The fair welcomed job seekers and encouraged them to speak with a variety of
representatives and stop by the Redwater Library booth, where they were ready and
waiting to not only print resumes but to promote and teach users how to use the new
resume builder, no fees, only a library card needed. The fair featured Alberta Health
Services promoting its government funded education, Alberta Health Care Aid,
upcoming employment opportunities at a newly opening grocery store, the local Tim
Hortons, Heartland Industrial Training Services educating job seekers on their role in
preparing them for the workplace, information on Metis Education, opportunities within
youth programming, and various other educational and career opportunities. The fair
was also a promotion to those not looking for employment, but simply looking to
enhance their lives and community with numerous volunteer opportunities within the
Town of Redwater.
Nicole Krill, the president of the Redwater & District Chamber of Commerce,
expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “This has been phenomenal, the support from the
community and the opportunity to bring job seekers to employers.” The Career and Job
Fair offered an incredible opportunity for attendees to explore a wide array of career
options—some well-known and others that may have previously been unknown. The
day was an amazing way to inspire connections and conversations between job seekers
and businesses. The fourth and final fair is slated to take place in February or March –
stay tuned for details.
