During the Town of Redwater’s recent council meeting, a group of fantastic youth
leaders were presented with their certificates of appreciation for their outstanding
contributions to the Town of Redwater’s summer programs. These Leaders in Training
(LITs) and Guards in Training (GITs) became an amazing team, popping up at events
and programming throughout the summer to scoop ice cream, lend a hand, and become
role models as they worked alongside Redwater staff throughout the busy summer
schedule that provided unique activities and programs for local children.
The Leaders in Training and Guards in Training programs are carefully crafted for
young people between the ages of 13 and 17. These programs aim to cultivate
essential leadership skills and provide valuable knowledge while ensuring an enjoyable
experience as they mentor and assist younger children. Participating in these programs
not only fosters personal growth but also offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to
their community or earn leadership and volunteer hours for school.
After an enriching summer experience, participants in the Leaders in Training
(LITs) and Guides in Training (GITs) program walk away equipped with a diverse set of
skills that will serve them well in a lifelong journey of learning and taking on leadership
responsibilities. Beyond the joy of engaging in activities like music, arts and crafts, and
sports with their younger charges, these young leaders experienced notable personal
development. They honed their abilities in behavior and risk management, program
planning, communication, confidentiality, and leadership, setting them on a path of
growth and preparedness for the future.
The Town of Redwater is proud of the LITs and GITs whose dedication,
enthusiasm, and hard work made the summer programming such a tremendous
success. Their commitment to the community is truly inspiring and the town is grateful
for their contributions. They have built valuable leadership, teamwork and social skills
that will continue to grow and take them into a bright and promising future—well done!
