The Alberta government is offering a series of webinars this fall to provide
support for funding, board governance and non-profit organizations. These webinars
are hosted on Zoom and are free to attend.
The Alberta Non-profit Learning Centre (NPLC) offers various learning
opportunities to assist non-profit organizations in making a positive impact. The center
provides live webinars, online courses and other resources to support governance,
operations, program delivery and services in the community.
The Community Development Unit also offers facilitation services provided by
trained and experienced facilitators. These facilitators can act as external and neutral
guides to support organizations with decision-making processes. Their services are tax-
supported and come with no fee or charge to organizations. They also offer online
webinars throughout the year, covering topics such as board governance basics, grant
writing, cybersecurity, and roles of the board executives. These webinars are open to
individual board members, volunteers, non-profit staff, and anyone interested in
governance and operation of non-profits.
The Board Development Program (BDP) focuses on enhancing the governance
and leadership of non-profit organizations through training on basic board governance
concepts and responsibilities.
The topics covered in the online Board Development Program include the non-
profit legal landscape, roles and responsibilities of a non-profit board, financial
responsibilities, risk management, and more.
Additionally, there are webinars available related to specific roles on non-profit
boards such as the board chair, board treasurer and board secretary. Other topics also
covered include cybersecurity for non-techie board members, strategic thinking, grant
writing and more.
The Non-profit Bistro Webinar Series focuses on specific governance topics and
practical applications. The series regularly develops new webinars with topics such as
basic facilitation tools, creating vision and mission statements, responding to
ransomware attacks and restructuring non-profit boards/organizations. A complete list
of topics and registration can be found on the Alberta website.
