The Town of Redwater once again hosted a successful Redwater Mayor and
Council Golf Tournament. The event is held annually and used to support various
community groups and local not-for-profits. The golf tournament includes breakfast, on-
site lunch, prizes for winners, a silent auction, and a dinner. The annual Redwater
Mayor and Council Golf Tournament has been a significant success, having raised over
$50,000 in support of various charitable causes. This remarkable achievement is a
testament to the unwavering support of sponsors, donors, volunteers, and enthusiastic
participants. Their generous contributions have not only helped in surpassing the
fundraising goals but also in making a meaningful difference in the community. In
concluding comments, it was noted, “You’re all winners no matter where you placed for
supporting not-for-profits.”
The recipients for the 2024 proceeds this year are the Redwater Fellowship of
Churches Food Bank, the Redwater Family Recreation Association (which is building a
pump track for skateboards, scooters, etc.), and a $1000 donation to establish a post-
secondary scholarship. Grateful for being chosen as recipients, the Redwater Food
Bank brought along a crew of volunteers to help with the event, and in turn, the
tournament is thankful for their support. Special thanks go out to all the sponsors of the
Redwater Mayor and Council Golf Tournament – without them, these events just would
not happen. The entire tournament is a testament to the dedication to community
support. The first-place winners, Pembina Pipeline Corp./Secure Energy, tied with
Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association and generously donated their prize to a silent
auction item, with the proceeds going to the not-for-profit groups. Similarly, Conifer
Energy CAO donated his prize winnings of a smoker to the Redwater Food Bank to use
as a raffle item to raise more funds for the food bank.
Mayor David McRae expanded on the opportunity the golf tournament creates to
give donations. The event is entirely self-funded and is the only way to provide such
significant contributions to local organizations and charities with no impact on taxes. It is
explicitly funded for not-for-profits. Redwater mayor and council look forward to the
tournament every year and participate in everything from BBQing the dinner to playing
golf. The tournament is a terrific way to get out, meet people, and be a part of great
community support. The next tournament will be held on August 7, 2025.
