The Thorhild Community Association was thrilled to acquire a new addition to
their event equipment – a cotton candy machine. Even though it may seem like a small
purchase, the delectable, fluffy confection spun from this machine is a beloved feature
at fairs, carnivals, and other community events. The acquisition of the cotton candy
machine by the Thorhild Community Association signifies an expansion of the fun and
delight at local gatherings, allowing for the creation of a delectable treat that adds an
extra touch of magic to the festivities.
Several volunteers eagerly gathered in the kitchen, excited to begin creating their
new sugary delight, cotton candy. As they meticulously whipped up batch after batch of
colorful cotton candy, they encountered a few hiccups along the way. Despite the
learning curve and inevitable mistakes, the volunteers persevered, understanding that
everyone must start somewhere, and errors are still tasty. Once the cotton candy was
ready, the team loaded bags upon bags of the sweet treat in preparation for Radway’s
Pioneer Days event.
Once at Radway Pioneer Days, the cotton candy station was set up alongside
the Radway Lion’s Club treasure dig, creating an atmosphere of excitement and
community engagement. With the bags creatively attached to sticks in a “hobo style”
fashion, mini volunteers eagerly took on the task of distributing the cotton candy to
delighted event attendees. The Thorhild Community Association decided to offer the
cotton candy for the low price of… free, with the option of contributing a donation. The
generous attendees insisted on contributing to the cause, and the donation jar soon
began filling up with coins of gratitude.
The unexpectedly heartwarming result of this initiative was the collection of over
$200. This sum will be happily donated to the local community food hamper program,
serving as a testament to the power of community spirit and generosity.
The decision to refrain from profiting from their practice rounds of cotton candy
creations was a thoughtful acknowledgment of the current challenging times and the
pressing need to address hunger and ensure that everyone’s basic needs are met. The
proceeds from the sale were earmarked to tackle a significant issue. Still, the Thorhild
Community Association and their dedicated helpers approached the task with infectious
enthusiasm and broad smiles as they navigated through the bustling crowds, eventually
selling out of their delectable treats. This cotton candy fundraiser stands as a
heartwarming example of the positive outcomes that can arise when different groups
come together with a shared goal of serving the greater good.
