The Feledichuk Family’s dedication to community and family legacy led to the
establishment of the Feledichuk Curran Memorial tournament in 2015. This tournament
was created as a heartfelt tribute to their grandparents and to support local
organizations through fundraising. Over the years, the tournament has proven to be a
vital source of financial support for regional projects, particularly for those facing
financial constraints. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament
was put on hold for two years, skipping 2020 and 2021. However, in 2022, the family
revived the tournament with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment.
The impact of the tournament extends beyond fundraising, as it also plays a
crucial role in providing an economic boost to the town. By attracting participants,
spectators, and visitors, the tournament contributes to increased activity for local
businesses, enhancing the town’s economic vitality during the tournament weekend.
The Feledichuk Family aims to sustain and enhance this positive impact in the years to
come, ensuring that the tournament continues to be a beacon of support for the
surrounding community.
The 8th Feledichuk Curran Memorial Tournament took place in Thorhild from
June 7th to 9th. The tournament drew 16 enthusiastic teams and over 200 skilled
players from various corners of the province. After an exhilarating series of games, the
championship title, the prestigious Paul Feledichuk Memorial Cup, was triumphantly
claimed by the Mittslappers from Fort Saskatchewan. In addition to the intense
competition on the field, the Men’s and Women’s Home Run Derby displayed
remarkable talent, with Tyler Baron and Tanya Courtorielle emerging as the champions,
securing the esteemed Joan & Cyril Curran Memorial Trophy.
This year’s event was a resounding success, not only in terms of sportsmanship
but also in giving back to the community. A record-breaking $12,000 was raised to
support the Thorhild Golden Age Drop-In Centre, a heartwarming display of generosity
from all involved. The Feledichuk Family expressed profound gratitude towards the
sponsors and volunteers whose unwavering support made this accomplishment
possible. With great anticipation, they look forward to the next tournament scheduled for
June 6th to 8th, 2025, expecting even more thrilling moments, memories, and
opportunities to contribute to local organizations.
