The Smoky Lake Youth Council, led by FCSS Coordinator Rachelle Amyotte and
established in 2022, has been diligently working to enhance the community experience
for the local youth. Comprised of more than a dozen enthusiastic members, the
council’s main objective is to create a vibrant and engaging environment tailored to
teenagers. Their initiatives range from organizing lively parties, entertaining karaoke
nights, and vibrant neon dances to hosting a stylish fashion show. This dedicated team
of young individuals actively seeks out opportunities and fully commits to making them a
reality. With a vision of establishing a youth recreation center, they are not just planning
events, but also shaping a brighter future for the community.
The Canada Day celebrations in Smoky Lake became even more memorable
thanks to the astounding organizational skills of the local teens. Members of the Smoky
Lake Youth Council showcased their event-planning talents by putting together a paid
face-painting event, with proceeds going towards their recreational center. Additionally,
they arranged a free water wars activity, equipping participants with water balloons and
an array of water toys for a thrilling, drenched showdown. Adding to the excitement, the
Smoky Lake Fire Department joined in, obviously cheating by using their own water
resources, but elevated the day to something truly extraordinary.
The true heroes of these events are the Smoky Lake Youth Council members,
who demonstrate their dedication and commitment to working together for the
betterment of the community. The council is open to all youth, and they emphasize that
their values are based on respect and tolerance, with the goal of making
Smoky Lake a better place for everyone.
