Thorhild Stampede and Car Show an annual favorite

By Brandie Majeau

Thorhild’s annual Canada Day celebrations and Stampede once again brought

the community together in a spectacular fashion. The festivities kicked off on June 30

with the infectious beats of Mad Jacks music drawing in crowds. Generously sponsored

by DDC Sand & Gravel, the evening was a whirlwind of lively dancing and community

fun. On July 1, the day began with the annual traditional St. Anne’s Catholic Church

Pancake Breakfast. As attendees waited in line, the air was abuzz with joyous

greetings, long-awaited catchups, and the laughter of old friends. It was a heartwarming

and festive occasion, as families came together to savor the special day.

The annual Thorhild Community Association parade was a delightful and vibrant

event that brought joy to all in attendance. The parade featured a variety of floats,

several of which were adorned in colorful 1960s-themed decorations to complement the

2024 parade theme. Each float exuded a friendly, competitive spirit, capturing the

attention of spectators and eliciting smiles and laughter from the crowd. The sidewalks

were lined with enthusiastic cheers and contagious laughter as the procession of 1960s-

inspired memories made its way through the streets.

The atmosphere at the rodeo grounds was electric. The tantalizing aroma of

sizzling hot food wafted through the air as the food trucks and stands buzzed with

activity. Patrons eagerly lined up to savor the mouthwatering offerings. The stands were

excited as cowboys, rodeo enthusiasts, and families settled in for a thrilling afternoon of

entertainment. Event after event showcased the vibrant spirit of Albertan and Canadian

rodeo culture.

Meanwhile, the Thorhild & District Agricultural Society was hard at work

presenting the annual car show, which featured an impressive array of vintage cars,

trucks, and tractors. The Thorhild Minor Hockey team served up concession goods and

free snow cones, adding a cool and refreshing touch to the event. Finally, the Ag

Society and its volunteers donned their aprons and sold and served 400 delicious steak

dinners, the proceeds of which went toward supporting their new equipment rental

initiative.

The Thorhild Community Association and Thorhild Ag Society are grateful for the

many sponsors and volunteers who support this endeavor every year. Without this

support, the Stampede and July 1 celebrations would be impossible. Not only is the

annual July 1 Stampede a wonderful event, but it also provides funding for the

community association to continue providing amazing programs like their annual Easter

egg hunt and community Christmas party.
