The Town of Smoky Lake is thrilled to announce its participation in the
Communities in Bloom contest, inviting all members of the community, regardless of
their gardening or design skills, to showcase their creativity. This year’s theme is
“orange”, challenging participants to get creative with their floral displays. Whether
you’re a seasoned gardener or a budding designer, you have the freedom to choose the
perfect flowers to bring the theme to life. Let your imagination run wild and create a
display that truly stands out!
By participating, residents not only have the chance to showcase their skills but
also contribute to a more vibrant and welcoming community. Creative efforts will be
recognized in residential and commercial categories, fostering a sense of friendly
competition and community pride. Communities in Bloom aims to beautify the town and
create a vibrant environment for all residents to enjoy. Join in making the Town of
Smoky Lake a more colorful and inviting place for everyone to appreciate!
Communities in Bloom is a volunteer and partnership-driven organization that
aims to enhance the quality of life and the environment through community involvement
and continuous improvement. The program uses a competitive evaluation process to
nurture environmental sustainability, green spaces, and heritage conservation in various
community spaces. The organization’s values include integrity, respect, collaboration,
excellence, and accountability. Communities in Bloom promotes diversity and inclusion
and has a slogan, “Growing Great Places Together.” The program was established in
1995 and has since expanded to include hundreds of communities internationally. In
2020, Communities in Bloom united with the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association
to further its impact. Participating communities are evaluated on six key criteria and
report benefits such as growth in civic pride and community improvements. The
program also includes a National Symposium on Parks and Grounds and a foundation
dedicated to supporting education and awareness of green spaces and the natural
environment.
To register, Smoky Lake residents may call the Town Office at 780-656-3674. The
registration deadline is July 29, 2024, and judging will be completed on July 31, 2024.
Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your skills and contribute to the community’s
beauty!
