Deana Sonnleiter, an independent community member, orchestrated a lively
sing-along event hosted at Smoky Lake Drop-In Center. The community musical affair
began at 4pm with a gradual inundation of people coming to check out the event. The
leisurely attendance built to a full community event that brought in the youth council
canteen fundraiser and a variety of family members. The atmosphere was a vibrant,
colorful, and inviting decorations adorning the hall. It was heartening to see people of all
ages coming together to engage with the music, singing, and dancing, creating a joyous
and celebratory atmosphere. Children were thrilled to don the mesmerizing bracelets in
a variety of glowing colors and were enchanted with the addition of a fog machine that
added to the ambiance of the festivities.
Sonnleiter, the mastermind behind this unique event, was truly overwhelmed with
joy and gratitude as she reflected on the opportunity to bring the gift of music to the
community. She passionately believes that “music is good for the soul,” and seeing the
positive reception from the audience and the remarkable sales achieved by the youth
council further solidified the success of the event. These results have also generated a
great deal of anticipation for future gatherings, highlighting the impact and potential for
even greater community involvement in the future.
After the resounding success of the first Smoky Lake Community Sing-Along,
Sonnleiter is already looking ahead to make improvements and build upon this event.
She is considering introducing prizes, securing media coverage, and adjusting timing to
enable more inclusiveness and accommodation for community members. Deana
Sonnleiter’s dedication to providing quality activities to the community is supported by
Smoky Lake FCSS and they look forward to seeing what she comes up with next.
