Readers Society

By Brandie Majeau
The Radway Readers, Radway Public Library’s “friends group”, spent a wintry
afternoon deep in artistic creation. Caps were popped off of paint tubes and paint
brushes were dusted off as they took to the table to carefully bring a series of white
wares to life. White shapes came to life as careful brush strokes became feathers and
fur. The sparkle of life began to dance with the emergence of eyes and delicate
features. The afternoon fell away as the group lost themselves into the magical
tranformations of porcelain to whimsical woodland creatures.
The Radway Reader’s Society worked their creative magic to ensure a
successful fundraiser where the pieces would be sold to raise money for the group. The
success of these fundraisers is important to the future continuation of the library. The
society is essential to the survival of a small town public library, ensuring additional
funds to provide assistance in purchasing craft supplies, books, food items and often
contributing to the larger purchases of Radway Library.
As with many rural libraries, Radway Library serves as community hub, providing
activities and programming for children and adults alike. Radway Public Library
appreciates the dedication and support of the Radway Reader’s Society, as they work to
continuously spend their volunteer hours supporting and enhancing a library that fosters
life-long learning.
