The Redwater Quilter’s Guild held their first open house on Saturday, February 24
The remarkable display was set up at the Redwater Alliance Church and highlighted
an unbelievable display of talent, each quilt spread out showing the aptitude and ability
of the delicate workmanship of each sewer. Over twenty people stopped by to admire
the works on display and enjoyed a host of refreshments, encouraging the guests to
linger and socialize after viewing the displays.
The Redwater Quilters Guild meets bi-weekly to sew and encourage each other
to continually develop skills and techniques, supporting each other as well as combining
their hobby with an impact on the community. As part of their mission, the quilters are
dedicated to giving back to the community, making a difference one quilt at a time.
While some of the quilts are personal projects, the stitchers dedicate their time and
materials to crafting blankets that will be donated to variable charitable resources.
Several of these receiving organizations include the Royal Alex neo-natal unit, Wings,
Sleep Easy, long-term care/Seniors’ homes, and victims’ services.
The non-profit group is essentially an organization for quilters to create, socialize,
and exchange ideas and techniques. However, the Redwater Quilter’s Guild has a far
more far-reaching impact. They inspire and offer a space to learn and find knowledge in
each other’s work. They are invaluable founts of information and techniques. They are a
blessing. As scraps of fabric are stitched into the beautiful creations that were laid out at
their open house, their far-reaching impact reverberates as charity pieces are draped
over the shoulders and laps of those who need a comforting hold, even if it comes in the
form of a quilt from strangers.
The Redwater Quilter’s Guild thanks the community for taking the time to stop in
at their open house and has plans to make this an annual event. For further information
