The Redwater Art Society (RAS) is teeming with a flood of excitement as they enter a
brand-new year. The calendar is filling up with classes and tutorials in addition to the regular
open Wednesday afternoons. The Wednesday afternoons are dedicated to all artists and art
connoisseurs to enjoy the peace of the gallery or work on current art projects. The purpose of
the Wednesday afternoon fellowship is not only to take pleasure in sharing the ideation process
with fellow artists, but also to engage and share tips, techniques, and gentle critiques in order
to further develop oneself.
January 20 marked the beginning of the 2024 calendar of tutorials. Painters wielded
their brushes as expert as swordsman, slicing across the canvas and brandishing a spectacular
array of blues, yellows, and greens to create a brilliant display of graceful arrogance befitting
the spectacular presence of a peacock. Under the skillful tutorial of the instructor and stroke by
stoke, the paintings revealed themselves, unique in personality and style, individually perfect of
each artist.
The best part, this is only the beginning of a year bursting with new techniques to learn
and new mediums and experimentation. Currently nine courses are booked, ranging from
upcoming dates within the next few weeks as well as courses booking well into the spring.
Many of the tutorials use acrylics guiding artists as they paint landscapes, trees, and animals,
however they are excited to offer painting with coffee, a great course for beginners or
experienced artists that lends itself to simplicity or greater complexity depending on the
individual. The Blind Workshop is an event upcoming in April that uses charcoal as a way to get
“down and dirty” as artists explore methods designed to unlock inner artistic blocks and step
outside one’s comfort zone. All artists (established or emerging) are welcome to join the
Redwater Art Society or sign up for upcoming courses and tutorials. RAS looks forward to
community engagement and hopes to welcome new members into its fold. The desire to share
experience and knowledge is at the heart their artists. Visit www.redwaterartsociety.ca to find
out about the amazing experiences you can attend, no previous experience needed, just a
desire to explore your talent and create.
