The Town of Smoky Lake Family Resource Network (TOSL FRN) is excited to announce
the opening of their new space on February 1. Originally located in the old HAK school, TOSL
FRN center was left without a permanent and consistent space with the closure of the building
in July 2023. Now, in partnership with the provincial government, they were able to
commission a lease located within the Town of Smoky Lake provincial building.
Going forth, having consistent place eases the uncertainty and effort of establishing
programs and the ambiguity of where families are to go to access the resources available to
them. The anticipation is tangible. The partnership with the government to ensure a safe space
for TOSL FRN allows ability for increased programs and a central hub to work from to increase
awareness of services available to families and individuals.
The new center also serves as a safe space and will offer in-person family, child and
youth-oriented programs and supportive services. Family Resource Networks have become an
amazing support system to communities across Alberta and having a stable center enables
directors and staff the opportunity to further educate the public, what does this network offer?
Are families aware that they can access free in-home services that support child development
and parent-child relationships? Are families aware they have access to free programming that
provides strategies for mentoring and life skills? Are families aware that their own communities
offer an understanding of the need for support and that the Town of Smoky Lake Family
Resource Network along with all community Family Resource Networks are there to provide for
commitment and devotion to the safety and growth of its community.
As TOSL FRN works to shift into its new space, it also works to ensure the dedication to
continual support and connections in rural Alberta rural and reaching out, promoting
understanding, and maintaining all families have an understanding of how they may rely on
FRN. The Town of Smoky Lake Family Resource Network looks forward to welcoming the
community
