Evolution Mechanical began with Josh Caouette as a one-man show, running a single service truck.
Caouette, now thirty-six, reminisces about the journey that began in his twenties, aiming to develop a
growth-oriented business with the goal of taking Evolution Mechanical across the country. Caouette, the
president of Evolution Mechanical, was born and raised in the Redwater area. He gestured across the
road from his current office to the house where he grew up. His memories are of a vibrant industrial
town that lacked a large heavy equipment mechanical shop. Currently in his fourth year at this location,
the company celebrated its tenth corporate anniversary this past February.
Following his own career as a heavy-duty mechanic, Josh Caouette continues to offer services to all
areas of Canada. His second location was established in Vernon, British Columbia, starting with
seventeen staff members on a project for the Coastal GasLink pipeline and work within its facility. The
need was there, so the second branch was established. Caouette modestly expanded on projects and
jobs currently underway in Ontario and the Northwest Territories, explaining that Evolution Mechanical
has outgrown its original plan. With approximately 70 current employees and 26 mobile truck services,
they have worked all over Canada. This includes projects that are done at a local level, as well as
equipment being brought in from Fort McMurray and Kitimat. The customer base has now also grown
globally, with projects from as far away as Australia.
Evolution Mechanical works on everything from mining and forestry equipment to general heavy-duty
mechanic jobs for all brands of equipment. These include industrial compressors and engines, complete
teardown and rebuilds of heavy-duty equipment, as well as welding and CVIP services. In an industry
becoming less popular, Caouette explains that their field techs come from all over western Canada and
they have even acquired the expert services of technicians from the east coast. With two shops
currently utilized on the property in his Redwater location, there is no shortage of work. As soon as you
step through the doors, the skill of the specialists is evident. A highly adept team is hard at work on a
variety of repairs, with torn apart machines slowly being brought back to their original ability and
strength.
In addition to running a heavy-duty mechanic business, Josh Caouette is the sole authorized Canadian
dealer for Menzi Muck equipment and attachments. Just this past month, Josh was at The Utility Show
Expo with the Menzi Muck team, showcasing the newest Menzi Muck 545x excavator. Menzi Muck is a
construction equipment manufacturer out of Switzerland and is used for its remarkable performance
and “walking” abilities, especially when working in hazardous areas like steep slopes and mountainous
terrains. However, the Menzi Muck design is highly versatile, allowing for different attachments to be
added, such as drills, mulching, and buckets. With that being said, Caouette also partners with Ontario’s
AMI attachments and the Austrian brand Wimmer for drilling components. Caouette’s venture into
marketing these incredible machines and attachments was something that “just fell into place” seven
years ago when he was working with four service trucks out of one bay in Riley. As he was looking to
expand into sales, Menzi Muck presented an opportunity for something that was new and innovative
and unsold by any other company in Canada.
Evolution Mechanical is always looking for skilled heavy-duty mechanics to join their team. The positions
are available in remote areas, Redwater, or Vernon, British Columbia. Any inquiries into these positions
or available services can be directed to info@evolutionmechanical.ca.
