By Brandie Majeau
It began with a gift of seedlings from Grandma. Berkleigh DesRoches worked hard
alongside her mother throughout the late spring and early summer, ensuring the little broccoli
plants were well tended to and cared for. They paid special attention to the friendly little
critters that came in search of tender green lunches, routinely chasing them off to find
something else to eat. Through cold, heat, rain and hail, the broccoli survived and flourished.
With Berkleigh’s helping hands, the broccoli harvest began this past week, and a little garden in
Thorhild County boasted a hearty yield. A little luck and a lot of care produced an abundance of
vegetables and smiles.
Happiness is a broccoli crown
