Eight second rule

By Brandie Majeau
The Newbrook Recreation & Agricultural Society put on an awesome event on June 24.
This was the first time that Newbrook decided to host a Bullarama. As Newbrook Fair wrapped
itself up the Bullarama became a centre stage event for people of all ages and from various
communities near and far. The bulls and competing riders were ready to put on a show to
expectant spectators. This is the first time in many years that a Bullarama has been organized
in Thorhild County. The event was very well attended. Previous ones in the community had
always been a fan favourite.
From the moment the first bull rider mounted his anxious bull, the first time the gate
was wrenched open freeing a fearless competitor and raging beast, spectators were held at the
edge of their seats anticipating the failure of being thrown or the celebration of holding on for
the magical eight second mark. Enthusiasts were treated to a nonstop ride of thrills as the
events continued to unfold into the evening. One of the most enjoyed events “big balls”
involved participants climbing into large, clear plastic balls in the centre of the arena and letting
a bull out in the mix to have some fun and get back at the species that jumps on their back.
Newbrook Recreation & Agricultural Society has said that the bullarama was a huge
success. They were pleased to announce that throughout the event, no one was injured and
everyone in attendance was thrilled with the unforgettable and unique entertainment. Bull
riders were also overheard commenting about the success of the show. With the success of
Newbrook’s first Ballarama there are already talks that they will most likely do it again.
