It’s that time of year! Summertime brings with it a collection of events and
entertainment that is fun for the entire family. The town of Newbrook celebrated the
beginning of summer with their Fair Days on the weekend of June 23. Like many small town
fairs the morning wouldn’t have been complete without a pancake breakfast to fill you up
before a full and busy day. With the hearty appetites satisfied, fair goers were ready for the fun
filled day.
A parade entertained the families and individuals lining main street with well-decorated
floats, tractors, emergency vehicles and classic cars. Treats flew from the parade entries and
delighted the waiting youth, bags and baskets filled up quickly with candy, chips, freezies and
more. A toddler was heard commenting that little chocolates should not be thrown on hot
days. Despite the comment, many little faces looked up smiling with chocolate smears
decorating their mouths, cheeks and hands.
Newbrook Hall and grounds were filled with excitement as patrons were greeted with
several bouncy houses and an inflatable obstacle course, a petting zoo and face painting
station. Children had a chance to dig in the playground sand in hopes of finding hidden tokens
to win a prize. Guests could take a break from the sun and browse the community marketplace
set up in the hall or purchase snacks and beverages at the concession. Rodeo participants put
on an amazing show to packed stands and pint-sized cowboys showed off their talents during
the Mutton Bustin’ competition.
Volunteer workers commented on the great turnout for the events, stating that there
was a steady steam of people all day. The steak supper had an overwhelming turnout. Over
300 steaks were grilled, and kitchen workers were rushing, needing to cook more potato’s part
way through the meal. The hall and outdoor eating area was packed with laughing friends and
families sharing the amazing meal. The evening rounded out with a family dance; music flowed
through the night air announcing the end of the summer celebration.
