Seniors’ Week was celebrated across Alberta this year during the week of June 5-11. The theme this year was “Aging is More” and focused on exciting Albertans about growing older. Radway Public Library and Newbrook Public Library celebrated their older community on June 8, inviting patrons to join them for an afternoon of treats, refreshments and door prizes. Radway librarian, Sandra Moschansky, was pleased to welcome twenty-one attendants to the event as well as a few stragglers that missed the opportunity to win the door prizes. “It was nice to have some gentlemen attend the tea as well as the lovely ladies who regularly support our events.” Moschansky commented. Newbrook Library entertained approximately thirty-five guests with a luncheon-style tea party. Newbrook Librarian Tracy Woloshyniuk said “It was a well-attended event, and I believe all those who came out enjoyed themselves.”
In addition to the great turnouts, Radway Library also gave many thanks to the Radway Readers Society for providing all the treats, goodies and door prizes, and Thorhild County for providing a cake. Newbrook Library offered a heartfelt thank you to Waste Management for a donation to the event as well as Thorhild County for also providing a cake for their tea.
A simple reminder to all: just because seniors’ week is over, don’t forget to keep your special seniors in your heart all year long and take time to spend with them. In a busy, fast-paced world, we need to slow down and remember that they are a wealth of knowledge, history and stories. They are the backbone of many organizations and volunteer committees. They have taught generations a multitude of talents and skills. They are the reason we are here. Suzanne Somers once said, “I like the way I look. I like the way I feel. I like my energy. I have wisdom. I have perspective. And I can tell you that aging can be so incredible.” Celebrate that “Aging is More”.
