Young authors present their works at the Redwater Public Library Megan Suitor The Friends of the Redwater Library were excited to host a Budding Authors event on the evening of May 8. Students from grades 2 to 5 were invited to submit a literary work that they would present during the event at Redwater Library. Seventeen students from Ochre Park School and Redwater School attended the event, with an additional 36 people attending to support the young writers. “This is the first live Budding Authors event that we’ve been able to have since 2019,” shared Friends of the Redwater Library President Stephanie Young. “We made sure to praise the students for the amount of courage it takes to read in front of an audience.” Fiction was the most popular genre for the writers, but the topics ranged from narratives to imaginative re imaginings of stories to personal compositions. At the end of the evening, participants received a certificate for participating in the event and a bag of gifts that included items from both the Friends of the Library and the Redwater Library. “As a member of the Friends, we hope to see more students at the event next year and to hear more interesting stories,” said Young. The Friends of the Redwater Library is a volunteer organization that provides support and participates in fundraising activities for the Redwater Public Library. They are hoping to recruit more volunteers to help with events such as Budding Authors and the hot dog sale during the town wide garage sale among others. Younger patrons are encouraged to join to share their input on the library and events.
