On Saturday, May 6 th , Thorhild Agricultural Society and Thorhild County held their annual
trade show. The event had run for two years before COVID and is now in its second year since
the restrictions have been lifted. A friendly trade show mascot could be seen walking around
town, waving to people and promoting not only the trade show, but other events around the
community as well. The trade show offered free entrance, along with a free raffle for children
twelve and under. Attendants could purchase raffle tickets to try and win several prizes
donated by a variety of sponsors.
Almost twenty community organizations and over 30 businesses set up tables and
displays to promote themselves and inform individuals of what they have to offer the
community. Guests were welcome to speak with utility and service companies, healthcare
professionals and a variety of organizations that operate on a volunteer basis. In between, they
were invited to sample or purchase numerous food items and browse the wonderful products,
many of them handmade. When asked why Thorhild County and Thorhild Ag Society worked so
hard to put on the event, Larry Hryciw commented, “The purpose is to showcase local
businesses, to invite outside businesses into our community, to promote community
organizations and to offer a space to promote volunteerism.”
The trade how was well attended; many people with tables mentioned that there was a
steady flow of people all day. These events are an important tool for community members to
glimpse how much their community has to offer them. It was a wonderful day that welcomed
all ages to come and experience not only information and products, but bouncy castles,
concession food and fellowship with other community members.
