Volunteers at the Redwater Museum have been working hard to prepare for a special anniversary this year. There are a number of dates throughout 2023 that mark important moments in the discovery of oil in Redwater 75 years ago.
The Redwater Museum, which is a strictly volunteer-run organisation, is trying to inform area residents about how important the discovery of oil was to the formation of the community.
“It was the largest oil discovery in North America at that time,” shared Audrey Petruk, a volunteer member at the museum. “Our big thing at the museum this year is that we are trying to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the discovery of oil.”
A new display board is being created to honour the discovery and provide more information as to how important the discovery was. The theme for this year’s Discovery Days will also reflect the important anniversary.
The museum is currently open on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. for residents to explore the exhibits showcasing the town’s history, as well as ask any questions of the knowledgeable volunteers.
