The final attendance numbers at Redwater’s Family Day event ended up doubling what was seen in previous years, at about 700 children and adults participating in the town’s activities.
There were plenty of activities for everyone to take part in, including proven favourites like airbrush tattoos and the new favourite inflatables.
“We’re happy to have the community come out in full force,” shared Jennifer Edworthy, Redwater’s Community Services Supervisor. “It’s great to see so many people of all ages being able to come together and socialize.”
All in attendance were able to enjoy free hot dogs, hot chocolate and s’mores kits. And the weather cooperated enough for s’mores to be roasted at the outdoor fire pits, under the watchful eyes of members of the Redwater Fire Department.
Edworthy stressed how important it is to have sponsors and volunteers who are willing to help make community events like this a success.
“We couldn’t do these events without the help of our community groups, town council, staff, volunteers and sponsors all giving of their time. NWR sponsored the wagon ride, and without that sponsorship, we wouldn’t have been able to have that activity.”
Edworthy added, “This event is run with the support of Family and Community Support Services and helps to build those strong family support systems.”
The record-breaking event ended up being supported by over 30 volunteers from the community, who were all smiles as they shared in the joys of so many kids playing and having fun.
With more events planned, the Town is looking for more volunteers that can help make future events as successful as this year’s Family Day. Anyone interested can contact Jennifer Edworthy at cscoordinator@redwater.ca, or 780-942-4101.
