Baby Buddies & Tot Time

Thorhild County Family Resource Center is there for you.  As a revamp of their previous ParentLink programs, Tammy Keufler, Family Resource Coordinator, is working hard to ensure local families have the resources they need to thrive and grow.  On February 14, the Baby Buddies & Tot Time program hosted a Valentine’s Potluck Party.  While the group played and participated in various crafts, there was a sense of community and connection among the parents.  The program is designed with one special purpose in mind: to connect community members to each other and offer early childhood resources when you need them.  With the Covid restrictions no longer an issue, Keufler stated that they are trying to provide predictable programming (currently Tuesday mornings) and try to keep it consistent.  Over the past couple of years the programs have been delayed, canceled, run outdoors or with restrictions inhibiting certain activities. “We are glad to be back in person!” said Jackie Mackay, a parent in attendance at the Valentine’s Party.

              Currently, 10+ families attend the Baby Buddies & Tot Time program.  It is all about connection, resources and reassurances.  The reassurances are a big part of the program.  It reminds parents that they are not alone in their struggles; they are not alone with their concerns, and yes, they are doing a great job.  Keufler looked around and commented, “It’s nice that we have people here from all areas.  This is the first time we’ve had families from Thorhild, Radway and Newbrook in attendance.”

               The program also brings in specialists to speak with families.  It makes them easily accessible and gives families somewhere to look and somewhere to turn to when they are unsure of where to go.  Previously, home support workers have been brought in to explain their role and how to access their services, as well as an occupational therapist and other professionals in early childhood development.  Families have also been offered ages and stages screening, again, another way of reassuring parents that everything is well or offering guidance if something needs to be addressed.
