Not only is the Winter Reading Program in full swing at Redwater Public Library, but a number of other programs are on the books and off the books for the remaining winter months.
“Every month we run 15 programs for families and kids. There are always the standard programs, and then there are the ones that just pop up,” explained Jessica Willerton, Program Coordinator at the library.
These programs include activities for adults, families and kids like LEGO Club, Tabletop Games Club, After School STEAM, and a movie night. There is also a registered adult program at the library each month. February will include a Valentine’s Day craft.
The theme for the Winter Reading Program is Adventure Awaits at the Library and will run until February 28. Participants can sign up at the library and receive a reading log book, or they can choose to sign up and log their reading online. Prizes are available through the library as well as through the Northern Lights Library System.
If community members don’t want to commit to the reading program, the NLLS is offering prizes through a program called Friday 15 for logging just fifteen minutes of reading each Friday in January and February.
The Redwater Library is also having a friendly competition for Family Literacy Day on January 27. “We will be competing with all of the libraries in Alberta,” said Susan Pruss, Library Director. “Read at least fifteen minutes, and then log it online.”
February also includes Family Day, and the library will be taking part in the festivities at Pembina Place with a craft table for community members to enjoy.
Library staff are already looking ahead to the spring months, and plans are in the works for both March and April. A beneficial program for anyone looking to learn more about computers will be run by Sturgeon Adult Learning and hosted by the library for two four-week programs in March and April. Willerton is also hoping to get more programs geared towards teens in the community running, and mentioned that teens should keep an eye out for a survey that will be available in the coming months with a chance to win a prize just for sharing an opinion.
