It is officially time; the Smoky Lake corn maze opened on September 3 and will continue to open until October 31. Join the local Kinette Club of Smoky Lake for a fun-filled afternoon figuring out your way through the corn maze on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to five pm. Admission is five dollars per person, while five and under are free. They are located east of the George McDougall Hospital in Smoky Lake. Weekly vendors will be at the corn maze for all who attend to enjoy and check out. Vendors like Noodle Pig mini donuts will follow, selling everyone’s favourite mini donuts, lemonade, coffee, and tea. Check out the Kinette Club of Smoky Lake Facebook page for updates on future vendors.
A few notes to remember from the Kinette Club of Smoky Lake; the terrain is rough and not quite packed down yet, so the best shoes to wear are running shoes. Dogs are allowed, but owners must clean up after them and be on a leash. Bring water with you just in case you “get lost” in the maze, and most of all, have fun.
Here are a few basic maze pointers. We all think, “It’s just a couple of stalks of corn. How hard can it be?” But, with that attitude, you’re likely to be the first to get lost. So, be sure to pay attention ahead to know the expectations in case or when you get lost. Farmers spend a lot of time planning their intricate and beautiful corn maze designs. It’s important to remember to bring out everything you take in and don’t cut through the corn. That’s called cheating, and it’s frowned upon by many. It could be an honest and promising way to make some new friends say hello to fellow maze goers. Don’t forget to dress appropriately for the weather and try your best to plan for it.
Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon finding your way through a well-planned corn maze with your family and other community members.
