Crowds gathered throughout the community of Redwater for the annual Discovery Day celebration on the weekend of August 19 to 21, hosted at Pembina Place and the Redwater School. Parents, children, and community members got together to enjoy the beautiful weather and experience a fun-filled day planned by the Redwater and District Agricultural Society.
A ball tournament kicked off the eventful weekend, which ran throughout its entirety. Friday evening held Movie in the Park at the Redwater School grounds, where Ghostbusters Afterlife was shown. Many attendees brought lawn chairs and blankets to sit and enjoy the show and some free popcorn.
Many people enjoyed a free pancake breakfast that ran Saturday morning, followed by the Discovery Day parade in which those who participated showcased their interpretation of “Bugs and Beasts.” The Redwater library held a hotdog and book sale and a sandwich and pie sale by the Pioneer Club. A bench show, a fifty-fifty raffle, and a farmers market ran for the better of the afternoon. Many guests were enthralled with the prizes, neat things to look at and all the wonderful homemade crafts. All the children’s faces were excited with the afternoon of fun set up: laser tag battles, large body bouncers, and a petting zoo filled with all sorts of animals. Car enthusiasts lusted over the show and shine cars, trucks, and motorcycles out on display. The community enjoyed live music performances throughout the day as they cheered and sang along. Inter Pipeline sponsored a free swim for all community members to partake in, a great way to cool off on the hot sunny day. The Legion hosted a “cook your own steak” dinner for those who reserved tickets in advance and an adult cabaret to wind down after a long and busy day. The evening had all patrons gathered for an astonishingly beautiful fireworks display, guests in awe as the fireworks lit the dusk sky.
Sunday ended with the ball tournament; many who played had been full of excitement and content with the fun, competitive weekend.
