A group of high school students from Redwater School are getting in shape at the Redwater Fitness Centre (RFC). They are participating through their option class in a program that started in February and wraps up on April 14.
“It’s great for their health and wellness,” said Andrea Prodaniuk, Manager of the
RFC. “We did offer it before COVID, and then we couldn’t for a while. So now it’s great to get back to it; it’s been amazing.”
The fitness centre offers a welcoming, positive environment available for the community of Redwater. The spacious room on the 2nd floor of Pembina Place is suitable for all levels and has a variety of fitness equipment and free weights.
An in-house trainer guides the students in becoming familiar with all the gear and how to use it safely. “We get things set up with him on certain days for the youth, which is a wonderful orientation for all the equipment and stuff,” said Prodaniuk. “They have had the orientation and then stretching.”
During the afternoon sessions, each student learns the importance of stretching before working out and then gets busy with the equipment they find interesting. “These youth are interested, and a handful of them are interested in returning and being part of our program,” said Prodaniuk. “It’s a good way to introduce them to fitness for health and wellness. I think that’s great.”
