On Dec. 31, 2021 at 3:50 am, Smoky Lake RCMP responded to a 2 vehicle collision on highway 28 and range road 151. Upon arrival, RCMP observed that a large semi tractor trailer unit had collided with a pick up truck. Unfortunately, the driver and lone occupant of the truck, a 55 year old Heart Lake resident, was declared deceased on scene. The driver and lone occupant of the semi tractor trailer unit was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
RCMP redirected traffic on Highway 28 for several hours while they investigated.
The investigation into the cause of the collision continues.
